When you apply SUNLUXE™ Self-tanning Gel to your body, DHA works by reacting with dead skin cells on the surface of your body. Essentially, your dead skin cells are darkened to mimic a sun-kissed glow. Keep in mind, this darkening of the skin is just that, momentary.

This active agent reacts chemically with the free amino acids in the stratum corneum. As a result of this non-UV Maillard reaction, melanoidin pigments gradually form and provide the appearance of a tan.
