Bought for my grand-daughter, and she loves it (finally got her interested in macro-photography, and this ring light is perfect for it), now she’s experimenting with portrait photography with it. It includes several different size lens mounting rings and different colored filters for the light ring itself, also includes variable power controls, right and left flash modes, a battery usage monitor, and takes 4 AA batteries, I have the more powerful version of the same type of unit from a different manufacturer and I use it for most of my macro and portrait images.

The light is tons of fun and love that it is continuous light as well as a flash! Happy that it has a display screen. Macro shooting is amazing with this light and it could be pitch black and still puts out enough light for a clean, crisp picture. I took tons of pics just playing around and can’t wait to take more! Great buy, happy customer!

I had previously bought a macro ring light, but it wound up being too heavy for the lens because you had to put 4 double A’s in it. When the lens would zoom, the gears would strain telescoping in and out. This version is 10 times lighter because the batteries go into the Hot Shoe. It also means you can choose between using it as a flash or as a constant light. Another awesome thing is you can use the provided filters to either diffuse the light and or change it’s color, or you have harsher light. The light weight doesn’t put any undue strain on a lens’s ability to focus.

Cheap and easy. I was afraid it wouldnt fit. It’s all about the lens, not the camera. Just make sure it has a size for your lens and you’re good to go. On the lens I have where with doesn’t fit, it was able to fit quite snugly with another size. May not be good practice but it easily for the job done.
I’d buy it again and recommend for the price.

I gave this 4 stars based on it is what you payed for and maybe better. It is a great ring light for someone starting out with macro (Such as myself) and doesn’t want to shell out a ton of money until they are sure that they are going to spend a lot of time getting into macro. I was impressed with how easy it was to set up. Yes the adapters are plastic and you have to take your time putting them on. But, again, for the price, I was not expecting anything metal. They come with enough adapters to fit most lenses. The battery life is excellent (Use good brand name batteries). The light output is quite reasonable. It is very easy to figure out and make adjustments. I would highly recommend this to anyone starting out. If I get into macro more, I will probably upgrade to a higher end ring light. But, would have no problem giving this to a fellow photographer who is starting out in macro. As an aside and not a complaint, I would recommend getting a suitable pouch to store all the adapters and diffusers so they don’t get misplaced.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Fits various lenses perfectly and is just right for macro photography. The colored diffusers add another level of creative possibilities. A complete light kit at a very reasonable cost.

I received it this week and have used it only once. It seems to work very well for macro shooting (12-36″) and close-up fill flash. Though it lacks TTL metering, it seems to be of better quality than expected for what it costs. I have seen this same unit with different names for as much as twice the price I paid, and similar brand name units can cost hundreds more. If you shoot occasional macros such as flowers, insects or food, like me, and don’t want to spend a fortune, I believe you will be satisfied with this light.
