ScarDR® Silicone Scar Treatments form a lightweight, self-drying silicone barrier for the treatment of scars. Our proprietary blends of silicones rapidly dry to form a sheet; this silicone protective layer is gas permeable, flexible, and waterproof. Our quick self-drying formula forms a bond with the stratum corneum (the outer layer of the skin composed of dead skin cells) forming a protective barrier on the scar site while assisting with hydration by reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL). This creates an environment that allows the scar to mature through normalized collagen synthesis cycles and significantly improves the physiological and cosmetic appearance of the scar.
How are Scars Formed?
When the dermis is damaged, the body forms new collagen fibers (a naturally occurring protein) to mend the damage, resulting in a scar. Scars are usually formed from a trauma or injury. This can be the result of surgery, a burn, or an accident. If the scar is still red and raised after 2 weeks then ScarDR® Scar Gel should be used to reduce the redness and flatten the scars. If you know that you scar easily or have a family member that scars then you should use ScarDR® Scar Gel as soon as the skin has healed. Early use has been clinically proven to prevent scar formation.
